Missing your furry best friend while you're in Bali? You’re not alone. Whether you're here for a week or a few months, that little ache in your chest every time you see a wagging tail is real. Luckily, Bali is one of the most dog-friendly islands in Southeast Asia. Here's how to soothe the homesick pup-parent in you, without compromising on your tropical adventure.

1. Volunteer at a Local Rescue Shelter

Aseman Bali Dog Association and BAWA are two local shelters doing incredible work rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Bali’s street dogs. Spend a few hours feeding puppies, walking adult dogs, or simply sitting with the shy ones. You’ll feel a rush of connection, and they’ll feel the love they’ve been missing.

2. Grab a Coffee at a Dog Café

Yes, Bali has dog cafés. Stop by Bali Dog Café in Canggu or The Shih Tzu Club in Ubud where resident pups lounge by your feet as you sip your iced matcha. Most of them are rescues, and some are even up for adoption.

3. Try Puppy Yoga with Rescue Dogs

If you’re craving a heart-melting experience, try a yoga class… with puppies. Some wellness centers in Bali offer sessions with rescued puppies — not bred for business, but genuinely up for adoption. It’s the perfect mix of serotonin, movement, and fur.

4. Visit a Dog-Friendly Beach at Sunset

Pererenan Beach and Munggu are local favorites where friendly dogs roam free. It’s not unusual to have a pup curl up beside you as the sun dips into the ocean. It’s wholesome, it’s healing, and it’s free.

5. Donate or Sponsor a Dog Back Home

If you’re short on time but full of love, consider sponsoring a dog. Most shelters in Bali accept PayPal or bank transfers, and even $10 can go a long way. Some even let you choose a specific dog and receive updates on their recovery.
