But where do the puppies come from? How old are they? What happens to them when they grow up? So many questions we’re grateful you're asking.
What Makes Puppy Yoga Bali Different: Rescue Puppies. Real Impact.
Before we share our story and for you to fully understand the values behind every choice made, we want to start with key answers.
Where do the puppies come from? Since 2024, Puppy Yoga Bali has made a bold and beautiful decision: to organise sessions exclusively with rescue associations. Every puppy you meet at our sessions has been rescued from the streets or from previous neglect. They come only for a few hours, where they gently rebuild trust in humans, socialize, are free to run in the garden, and most importantly, drastically increase their chance of being adopted.
Are the puppies adoptable? Yes. And it’s one of our biggest missions. One year ago, the association we collaborate with averaged 2 adoptions per year. Today? Thanks to the visibility and love generated by Puppy Yoga Bali, they’ve reached 75+ adoptions. It's a 4100% increase.
In just 1 year.
What happens when they grow up? As mentioned: the puppies are not ours. They all belong to an incredible rescue shelter, Aseman Bali Dog Association. This Balinese-run family refuge cares for every puppy and adult dog for life until they find a family. Currently, they care for over 50 rescue puppies and more than 300 rescue adults dogs, with full-time dedication. If you're visiting Bali, they even offer volunteer days if you want to help them more. Are they vaccinated? Absolutely. Including rabies. Each puppy has a full health booklet, with respect for immunity delays. Every week, a veterinarian checks their condition and issues a fresh health certificate, ensuring they are totally healthy.
Now that you’ve got the answers to the big questions, here’s the part most people don’t know :
The story behind the choices. We made a bet. It was a year ago. And it's when our adventure truly began.
For the past year, Puppy Yoga Bali has been doing things differently. Not just cute. Not just yoga with dogs. But the only puppy yoga experience in Bali based 100% on rescue. Every single puppy in our sessions has been saved. All rescued by one extraordinary local non-profit: Aseman Bali Dog Association. And they didn’t rescue 10, 20, or 30 dogs. They’ve rescued over 350 dogs, puppies, adults, abandoned. Yes, rescue puppies are less “Instagram” than a Golden Retriever, a Poodle, or a Husky. But you must know, if you come to Bali, you’ll see street dogs. What’s really hard and takes time to realize is how big the problem actually is. That's also why in the beginning we also had sessions with ethical family breeder and rescued puppies. The truth is, every time, the rescue puppy sessions were the last ones to get booked.
Even though they were just as adorable. Just as loving. Just as joyful. Needing even more love. After months of learning, observing, and truly understanding the reality of Bali’s street dogs situation, even though we knew which sessions were less popular, we still decided to make a bet. We made the bet to go 100% rescue.
To organise only sessions with rescued puppies.
Even if we were going to loose clients
Even if we looked less "instagram"
It was a year ago.
And it was the decision that changed everything.
Real impact for these puppies....
As you can imagine, puppy yoga helps a lot with socialization. But it needs to come with our rules : no more than 3 sessions maximum per day (in Europe it go up to 8 per day..) at least 45 minutes of rest between each session,
minimum of 2 hours of nap time in the shade/AC room. Socialization is the normal benefits for puppies. But when it comes to rescue puppies, it goes way beyond socialization. We help them finally find their family. With Puppy Yoga Bali, adoptions from the rescue shelter have increased by 4100% in just one year. And honestly, we can’t describe the feeling each time we welcome a new rescue. Because of what they’ve been through, some of them arrive very shy.
They stay in the arm of their rescuer, or prefer the garden. We’ve never forced interactions. And yet, the results have been beautiful. We calculated it. On average : After just 1.5 sessions, a fearful puppy starts approaching participants. After 2 sessions, they begin running and playing with the others. .And after 3 sessions, 90% of them curl up in someone’s lap. Puppy Yoga Bali isn’t just about giving you love.
It’s about allowing them to trust us again. 2. … For all the other dogs at the shelter…
For every ticket purchased, a part of the profits goes directly to cover care, medicine, and food for all the other rescue dogs saved by the association.
In just one year, we managed to raise $25,000.
One hundred percent.
That’s the percentage we donated to the association.
It helped:
– Rescue even more dogs
– Buy more food
– Expand the spaces
– Build a dedicated puppy area
– And now… build a full veterinary clinic inside the shelter, and pay the full salary of a vet who will from now take exclusively care of the dogs rescued by this association.
That’s the kind of impact Puppy Yoga Bali has on all the other dogs you don’t see in class, but who matter just as much.
......And now, for the street dogs too.
Because when you start to (really) get involved, you always want to go further.
That’s why we decided to fully fund 100% of the sterilization and rabies vaccination events for street dogs in Bali.
In just 3 months, we paid for:
– 100 street dogs vaccinated against rabies
– 70 sterilizations
And none of this would’ve been possible without the incredible organization of Aseman Bali Dog Association, with an aim to from now run these life-saving campaigns every 3 to 4 months.
4. And about health : are they all vaccinated?
Absolutely. Every single puppy has received all the required vaccinations to safely interact with humans. Including rabies, of course. Each puppy has a full health booklet, with respect for proper immunity delays. And every week, a licensed veterinarian checks their condition and issues a fresh health certificate, confirming they are completely healthy and fit to join the sessions.
5. Do the puppies have access to water during the sessions?
Yes, and sadly, it’s a question we’ve actually been asked. Because some centers limit their access to water just to avoid accidents. (That's the reason why you always need to ne careful of which activity you choose not only for Puppy yoga, but with any kind of activities with animls) So yes, your yoga mat might be the lucky chosen one a puppy decides to pee on.
But that’s exactly why we’re the only center with a full 7-person team constantly cleaning during the sessions, changing mats after every accident, and providing access to a garden in case a puppy needs to go outside. And honestly : we’d rather clean 10 mats a day than deny basic needs for the sake of looking “Instagram-perfect.” At Puppy Yoga Bali, we chose not to follow the easy path.
We chose the rescue path.
100% of our puppies are rescued Every session you attend helps real dogs get adopted, treated, loved, for life.
In one year, we've helped increase shelter adoptions by 4100%, raised $25,000 for vet care, and funded sterilization & vaccination events for Bali’s street dogs.
We’re not just a yoga class with puppies.
We’re proof that Puppy yoga in Bali can be ethical, impactful, and life-changing, for them, and for you.
